THE “TALKING ABOUT ME BECAUSE NO ONE LISTENS TO ME” SYNDROME
Have you ever noticed that some people seem to talk about you constantly?
Your choices.
Your relationships.
Your mistakes.
Your life.
Your business.
And you start wondering, “Why are they so invested in me?”
Sometimes, the answer has very little to do with you.
Some people have never learned how to process their own emotions, so they process them through other people’s lives.
They talk about you because nobody listens when they talk about themselves.
They criticize you because they don’t know how to confront their own insecurities.
They analyze your choices because avoiding their own choices is easier.
They gossip about your life because it temporarily distracts them from the parts of their own life they don’t want to face.
And sometimes, talking about you gives them something they desperately need: attention.
Here is the important part:
You do not have to attend every conversation you are the subject of.
Let them talk.
You don’t have to defend yourself against every opinion.
You don’t have to correct every rumor.
You don’t have to explain yourself to people who have already decided what they want to believe.
And you certainly don’t have to shrink your life because someone else is uncomfortable watching you live it.
Sometimes the healthiest response to people talking about you is not confrontation.
It’s detachment.
Let them have their conversation.
You have a life to live.
And remember:
When someone constantly talks about you, it may reveal far more about what is happening inside of them than it ever will about you.
Protect your peace.
Not everyone deserves access to your explanation.
