“Anger is the part of you that loves you the most.”
Wait—what?
Not my kindness?
Not my compassion?
Not my ability to forgive?
My anger?
Because most of us were not raised to see anger that way.
We were taught anger is the problem.
That anger is what gets people in trouble.
That anger is what ruins relationships.
So we learned to do one of two things—
We either swallow it…
or we spill it everywhere.
But what if anger isn’t the enemy?
What if anger is actually…
the protector?
Because if you really think about it—
anger doesn’t show up randomly.
Anger shows up right on time.
It shows up the moment you are being:
• talked down to
• overlooked
• dismissed
• disrespected
• or asked to shrink to make someone else comfortable
Anger is the part of you that says:
“This doesn’t feel right.”
“This isn’t okay.”
“This is not what I deserve.”
That’s not dysfunction.
That’s awareness.
That’s not weakness.
That’s self-respect trying to get your attention.
But here’s where it gets complicated…
Because somewhere along the way, many of us learned that it wasn’t safe to listen to that voice.
So instead of hearing:
“This isn’t okay…”
We told ourselves:
“It’s not that bad.”
“I’m probably overreacting.”
“I just need to be more understanding.”
And slowly… we started abandoning ourselves.
And here’s the truth—
when you ignore anger, it doesn’t disappear.
It adapts.
It turns into:
• anxiety
• resentment
• burnout
• people-pleasing
• or emotional exhaustion that you can’t quite explain
Because anger was never meant to stay inside of you.
It was meant to move you.
My therapist said something else that hit just as hard.
She said:
“When you learn to listen to your anger and make it your best friend… it will leave.”
And that changed everything for me.
Because anger isn’t trying to control you.
It’s trying to communicate with you.
It’s saying:
• “Set the boundary.”
• “Speak the truth.”
• “Leave the room.”
• “Walk away from what no longer honors you.”
And once you do?
It doesn’t need to scream anymore.
It doesn’t need to burn.
It doesn’t need to erupt.
Because you finally listened.
So today, I want to offer you a reframe—
What if the goal isn’t to get rid of your anger…
but to understand it?
What if your anger is not a flaw in your character…
but a signal from your integrity?
What if the very thing you’ve been taught to suppress…
is actually the part of you that refuses to let you be mistreated?
Because here’s the mic-drop truth:
Your anger is not what gets you in trouble.
Your unexpressed anger is.
Your ignored anger is.
Your buried anger is.
Your silenced anger is.
But anger that is heard?
Anger that is honored?
Anger that is used to make aligned, self-respecting decisions?
That kind of anger doesn’t destroy your life.
It protects it.
So the next time you feel it rising—
instead of asking,
“What’s wrong with me?”
Try asking:
“What is my anger trying to protect?”
Because the answer to that question…
might just change everything.
